VTA opens new Light
Rail Line to Mountain View!
On December 20, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority
(VTA) opened the Tasman West Light Rail Line - a 7.6-mile extension
to the existing 21-mile light rail line. The line adds 12 new
stations between Champion Court in north San Jose and Downtown
Mountain View. The light rail line presents new opportunities
to use the expanding rail system and provides new service to high
technology employers such as:
· Cisco Systems, GTE, Hewlett Packard, Lockheed Martin
Missiles and Space, NASA Ames Research Center, Netscape Communications,
Network Appliance, Rolm Siemens
At the Mountain View station, passengers can
connect to Caltrain's Gilroy-to-San Francisco service. At the
Lick Mill station, passengers can connect to Amtrak's Capitol
service to Oakland and Sacramento and the Altamont Commuter Express
(ACE) service through the Tri-Valley and onto Stockton. Along
the route, other connections can be made to county expressways,
bus routes, and bike routes.
