Iniative reports that.....
CalWORKs staff will soon be getting official notice (in the next
week or so) about VEHICLE REPAIR MONIES AVAILABLE. A summary of
this new program follows:
CalWORKs recipients who are participating in a self-sufficiency activity, including participants who are employed full-time or who are eligible post-aid participants, may be eligible for monies to pay for vehicle repair.
The vehicle repair must be:
· Necessary for the participant to continue along the path
of self-sufficiency
· Necessary to provide maintenance of the vehicle or for
the vehicle to remain operable
· For a vehicle used as the participant's primary mode
of transportation to school, work, training or any activity.
CalWORKs Employment Services staff will process the requests and issue the payments.
Required Verifications
The participant must provide all the following verifications:
· Current vehicle registration in the participant's name
· Current California driver's license
· Current verification of vehicle insurance
· Completed SC 1787. The SC 1787 will be stapled to the
back of the flap of Section 4 of the CWES case folder.
· Two (2) original estimates from a licensed vehicle repair
shop describing the type and cost of repairs required. If undue
hardship exists in providing two estimates, such as the vehicle
is inoperable, one estimate may be accepted with CalWORKs Supervisory
approval.
OR
· An original bill from a licensed vehicle repair shop
describing the type and cost of repair performed. Request for
reimbursements must be for work performed within the last 10 calendar
days of the request.
That's the scoop.....more to come.
