FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - GUARANTEED RIDE PROGRAM

Here are some of the frequently asked questions we receive regarding our Guaranteed Ride Program. We hope this helps you understand how the Guaranteed Ride Program can possibly benefit you.

Q: What benefits does the Guaranteed Ride Program provide?
A: Scheduled transportation to work, training, school and other CalWORKs sanctioned activities. Participants may use the service to drop-off their dependent children (up to 13 years of age) at day care, pre-school or school, on their way to their CalWORKs approved activity. Participants may use the service to pick-up children from these locations on their return trip home. The service may be used to obtain a ride home, when a qualified participant has difficulty with their vehicle at work and has no other alternative to return home. Program participants may receive up to 40 one-way trips during their CalWORKs eligibility period. Services are typically provided in sedans with the OUTREACH logo or through a taxi service working in cooperation with OUTREACH. All transportation services are free of charges to qualified participants. Participants must provide appropriate car safety-seats for children accompanying them on a trip. No car safety-seats will be provided by the Guaranteed Ride Program. No child will be transported without an appropriate car safety-seat.

Q: Who is eligible for Guaranteed Ride Program services?
A: Current qualified Santa Clara County CalWORKs participants in good standing and those former CalWORKs participants eligible to receive Post Aid Services. A small number of openings are available for low-income individuals who are trying to enter or re-enter the work force. Low-income is defined as a household income that does not exceed 150% of the Federal Poverty Income Standards. Please contact the Guaranteed Ride Program for specific low-income eligibility requirements.

Q: How do I apply for the Guaranteed Ride Program?
A: Complete an application and provide confirmation of your CalWORKs status. CalWORKs status may be confirmed by your Eligibility Worker or other CalWORKs staff. Applicants attempting to qualify under low-income eligibility standards must provide third-party documentation of their household’s income. Please contact the program for more details.
