FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - PARATRANSIT SERIVICE
Here are some of the frequently asked questions we receive regarding our Paratransit Program. We hope this helps you understand how the Paratransit Program can possibly benefit you and how it does benefit others.
Q: What is the OUTREACH Paratransit Program?
A: OUTREACH, a private non-profit agency, is the Paratransit Broker for the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). We provide public paratransit service for residents of Santa Clara County whose disability prevents them from using public transportation (bus, train, light rail).
 
Q: How do I apply for paratransit service?
A: OUTREACH currently conducts the application process. If you would like an application we can mail one out to you, or you can print off a form here on this website.
 
Q: How long does it take to process my application?
A: Once OUTREACH has received your completed application with an authorization to contact your physician or licensed professional we will contact you or your representative to review your application and conduct a brief phone interview to help determine your paratransit eligibility. You will then receive the results of your eligibly within 21 working days of the phone interview and the verification of disability.
 
Q: What are your hours of operation?
A: Paratransit service is provided seven days a week from 5:00 am to 2:00 am. OUTREACH's Reservations Department is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 7 days a week, including all holidays and our Day of Service Department is open from 5:00 am to 2:00 am, if you call between the hours of 10:00 pm and 2:00 am you will be directed to an alternate number (408-454-4087). Our administrative offices are open during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
 
Q: How can I schedule a ride?
A: Rides must be scheduled at least 1 day in advance and up to 14 days in advance by calling the toll-free OUTREACH Reservations line (1-800-400-3440). Reservation lines are open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm seven days a week, and we are open all holidays.
 
Q: What types of vehicles do you have?
A: Depending upon the individual need and availability, a sedan, or wheelchair accessible vehicle may be used.
 
Q: Am I restricted to a certain number of rides?
A: ADA clients are eligible for unlimited rides of unlimited distance within the service area in Santa Clara County.
 
Q: Is there a charge for the rides?
A: All standard pre-scheduled rides are $3.50 per one-way trip. There are additional charges for premium services. These charges are outlined in our program guidelines. Eligible clients may make an initial deposit of any dollar amount into their account prior to scheduling any rides. Each time a ride is provided, the cost is deducted fro your account.
 
Q: Can I take my pet along with me?
A: Yes, customers may travel with a pet as long as it is in a secure cage and under the control of the customer at all times. However, service animals that travel with you do not require to be caged.
